Why is our club different?

The Arizona Pre-Optometry Club (AzPOC), established in 2024, is committed to supporting Arizona college students pursuing a career in Optometry. We offer educational support and networking opportunities through the engagement of practicing Optometrists and students. The club aims to enhance members' educational journeys in healthcare and foster connections with like-minded peers and professionals, creating a vital platform for aspiring Optometrists. We are NOT associated with any college our Doctors have all the connections you need to help you succeed.

Membership in the AzPOC is open to all Arizona college students interested in pursuing a career in Optometry, and there is currently no membership fee. We invite students to join us on their path towards achieving their Optometry career goals.

Additionally, we are actively seeking Executive Board members to contribute to the promotion and organization of our dynamic and forward-thinking Pre-Optometry Society. Despite being a newly established club, our approach is dedicated to fostering success in the pursuit of becoming an Optometrist.

Success is often linked to one's connections, and we can help you with networking opportunities, as well as finding part-time employment or volunteer opportunities for gaining essential experience in an Optometric practice, crucial for your Optometry school application.

Education

Connecting students with professionals in the optometry field. The Arizona Pre-Optometry Society is unwavering in its commitment to providing a spectrum of resources, encompassing Midwestern Optometry school tour, insightful guest speakers, mentorship programs, and assistance in securing positions at Optometry offices for hands-on experience. By offering an array of opportunities, the club aims to enrich the academic journey of pre-optometry students, equipping them with the skills and knowledge necessary for successful applications to Optometry School.

Midwestern's Arizona College of Optometry's 2024 Pre-Optometry program (AZ-POP) is a three day in-person program designed for undergraduate students interested in the health sciences to learn more about pursuing a career in optometry. Through interactive activities, students will gain insight into the optometric profession, including the application process, life as an optometry student, and the diverse career options that optometry has to offer.

Employment & Volunteer Opportunities

Upon joining our club, we will collaborate with you to identify either part-time employment or volunteer opportunities within an optometrist's office. Gaining practical experience is crucial when applying to Optometry School.

The Arizona Pre-Optometry Club is committed to offering steadfast support to students with aspirations of entering the optometry field. Upon membership, you will have access to an array of valuable advantages. These encompass guidance from seasoned optometrists to assist in securing internships and job opportunities, exclusive tours of optical labs, opportunities for fostering both friendships and professional connections, participation in leadership and mentoring programs, and vital insights from recent graduates delivering lectures and information on effective preparation strategies for the OAT exam. Our objective is to empower you with the knowledge needed for successful acceptance into optometry school and to provide comprehensive education on the field of optometry.

At present, joining our Society is without cost. As our membership expands, we will offer in-person meetings tailored to accommodate your specific needs and aspirations.

Anh Nguyen, a third-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences (Biomedical) with a minor in Psychology at Arizona State University, currently holds the role of Optometric Technician at Tatum Eyecare. Beyond her academic responsibilities, she serves as a club officer in the Pre-Optometry club and actively participates in the Crochet Club. Anh is driven by her passion for optimizing visual potential and contributing to global healthcare, prompting her desire to further her education through attendance at Optometry school.

Remarkably, Anh established the Arizona Pre-Optometry Club with the intention of fostering networking avenues with optometrists affiliated with Tatum Eyecare—a renowned optometric practice featuring a team of six dedicated professionals. Acknowledging the importance of engaging with fellow Optometrists, Anh is driven by the desire to acquire valuable insights to further her ambitions of attending Optometry school. By leveraging the expertise and connections of the optometrists she collaborates with, she endeavors to facilitate her own journey towards becoming an Optometrist, while simultaneously aiding other students in their pursuit of success within the field.
